KIM SCHOFFSTALL: MUSIC

Oh Savannah

(Kim Schoffstall)

"We had stopped in Savannah Georgia for the night on our drive down to Boca Grande, Flordia. We had a late dinner and did some sight seeing by car before turning in for the night. In the morning I didn't want to leave the town. I just wanted to stay and keep looking around. So, to solidify the images for myself I just started describing everything I saw while we had been there. Somewhere before Jacksonville the line "Oh Savannah, now don't you cry for me..." came to me to the tune of the old song "Oh Suzanna". The rest flowed from that point." - K.S.
Verse 1:
Your trees are weeping with hanging vines;
The spanish moss canopy climbs.
Southern white mansions with blackened trim;
Your big wide porches welcome me in.

Chorus:
And Oh Savannah now don't you cry for me.
Give them tours of graveyards and your town,
And tales of John Wesley.

Verse 2:
I left you sleeping in your bed;
The morning sun streamed cross your hair.
And you will miss me when I'm gone;
Like the fading chorus of your favorite song. (CH)

Bridge:
My mind takes pictures of all I see
For most likely my travels will keep me from thee. (CH)
