"I was taking Global Issues in Literature coursefinishing up my degree and one of the books we were reading was Salmon Rushdies "Haroon's Story" which he wrote for his son. It is this whimsical story in which the character's role serves dual purpose. One role is for the story, the other is for the bigger picture. The story is basically about sensorship in writing. The images wouldn't leave me alone and I decided to write a condensed song version of the story in 7 part rondo to keep it lively. It's my daughter and her friends favorite song." - K.S.
Let me tell you a story about a boy named Haroun and the Sea of Great Stories to tell
And his Father Rashid, the "Ocean of Notions",
Had a gift that was slipping away.

For somebody told him they didn't believe all the stories he famously told.
And what was the point of telling such stories,
Why couldn't he get a real job?

For there's If's and Butt's and who knows where
Your worries could lead you if you followed them there.

When Haroun met the genie who was standing so small
With a gigantic wrench in his hand
And his stubborn intent was in disconnecting
The invisible story pipeline.

Where the stories come in
But never the same way twice
And if you want this device
You will have to subscribe.

Well on a brave bird they all took a flight
To the land where the enemies lives
But they were just shadows who wanted dark silence
And were guilty of murdering tales.

So Haroun drank a vile of pure wishwater and wished the most wishingful dream
Then the moon turned to sun and it shown bright as day and melted the shadows away.

Then Father and son traveled back to their home
Where they found their sad city restored
All the clocks were now ticking and people were singing
And the stories were told once again.

Let me tell you a story about a boy named Haroun
And the Sea of Great Stories to tell....
