"Oddly enough this song was an experiment using a new songwriting technique from the Luboff's (writesongs.com). Once into the songwriting process, I tried to think of all the different ways a whistle would be heard, ie: a train whistle, whistle in a factory at the end of the day, and a chariot sweeping down to pick up a man at the end of his life." - K.S.
Verse 1:
When the sun sets long behind the trees;
And the night lies still on the breeze;
When the stars eyes start to awake;
He'll see his love face to face.
Chorus:
When the whistle blows
When that whistle blows
When the whistle blows
He'll be going home.
Verse 2:
With his suitcase heavy in hand
And his uniform creased from how he stands
When it seems like years have come and gone,
He'll hear that sound and it won't be long. (CH)
Bridge:
And someday he'll take his last breath
And he'll see the tracks that lie ahead
And his sweet chariot will swing low
And the river of time will cease to flow. (CH)
